Last-Minute Victory for HTV Meißenehim in the Derby
On February 24, 2024, the HTV Meißenheim and SG Scutro faced off in a thrilling derby match that had spectators on the edge of their seats. Injuries and illness had taken a toll on Scutro, making them start the game at a severe disadvantage. Despite this, coach Axel Schmidt’s team put up a courageous fight, showing great determination against their rivals. Unfortunately, their efforts were hampered by an early red card shown to Simon Heitzmann just 14 minutes into the game.
A Hard-Fought Match
The first half of the match was tightly contested, with both teams matching each other’s scores, resulting in a 16-16 tie at halftime. In the second half, Scutro took the lead at times, even extending it to a two-goal advantage. However, the home team proved to have more endurance and kept pushing until the final whistle.
The game seemed destined for a draw when Robin Dietrich scored for the guests in the dying seconds, making it 35-35. However, Max Zürcher had other plans, converting a shot to secure the dramatic 36-35 victory for Meißenheim.
“What am I supposed to do? I only had two players available for training this week,” lamented Coach Axel Schmidt, who will be stepping down as the team’s coach at the end of the season.
The match showcased the resilience and fighting spirit of both teams, with Meißenheim ultimately coming out on top. The victory will undoubtedly boost their confidence as they continue their journey in the competition.
