Markus Vollmer Steps Down as Mayor During New Year’s Reception

During the New Year’s Reception of the community of Ortenberg, Mayor Markus Vollmer has announced that he will not make himself available for re-election. His term will end on 30th November. In a press statement, Vollmer wrote, “Just a few weeks after the end of my term, I will reach the age of 60. I am aware that I will not be able to fulfill the responsibilities of the mayor for a third term in the same way that I expect from myself. I could not make the promise to meet the expectations in at least the same manner as before, in case of re-election.”
Transitioning Responsibility to the Next Generation
Markus Vollmer believes the time is right to pass on the baton to the next generation. “I am very confident that our hometown will continue to develop positively,” Vollmer further added.
Markus Vollmer was first elected to office in 2008, succeeding the long-serving mayor Hermann Litterst. In his re-election in 2016, Vollmer achieved an impressive 94.55% of the votes. The scheduled date for the mayoral election in 2024 is the 13th of October.
